Anycast

Anycast is a network addressing technique where the same IP address is announced from multiple physical locations, and internet routing (via BGP) delivers each client's traffic to the topologically nearest or best-performing instance rather than one fixed server. It's the mechanism behind most large-scale, low-latency public DNS resolvers and content delivery networks: a query sent to the same anycast address from different continents is actually answered by different physical servers, improving latency and giving automatic failover, since a failing site's routes simply stop being advertised and traffic shifts to the next-nearest instance. AdminKit's DNS lookup tool queries Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver, a well-known anycast deployment, so the specific server that answers a given query depends on where the request originates rather than a single named machine.
