Bogon address
A bogon is an IP address that should never appear as a real source or destination on the public internet, because it falls in a range IANA has not yet allocated to any registry, or one reserved for special use such as RFC 1918 private space, loopback, or documentation examples (RFC 6890 catalogs the IANA special-purpose registry these reservations come from). Network operators and firewalls filter bogon traffic -- commonly against a reference list such as Team Cymru's -- on the assumption that a packet claiming to originate from one is either misconfigured or spoofed, since no legitimate host anywhere should hold that address. A "fullbogon" list extends this further to cover space that is allocated but not yet announced in global routing, which changes over time as IANA assigns new blocks, unlike the fixed special-purpose reservations.
